Nejc Marcic - Slovenia

The west face of K7 West (6858 m): this is a 1600 metre-high monument in the heart of the Karakorum, a spectacle of ice and rock which was love at first sight for Nejc Marcic. This is how one of the greatest mountaineering adventures of our times was born: the route was completed in alpine style between 6 and 8 September 2011 and a few months later was awarded the Piolets d’Or, at the ceremony at the foot of Mont Blanc. Born in 1985, Nejc is among the strongest Slovenian alpinists and became famous because of this masterpiece with an evocative name, The Dreamers of Golden Caves. In order to understand the great talent of Nejc, it will suffice to say that, in just six years, he went from his first steps on rock to stardom, making ascents in the Alps and further afield (Peru, Bolivia, Patagonia, the USA, Pakistan, China and so on). “As a mountaineer, I look for challenges”, he explains. “When I do find them, I feel happy. On K7 West I found what I was looking for, with everything under control, fully committing all the time.”
